For all your welfare needs...

Many medical students find the transition from pre-clinical to clinical school a daunting time. Although it is often a very welcome change from the endless lectures, essays and tutorials of the first three years, there are lots of new things to get used to, such as the hospital environment, a new style of learning, and meeting real patients!
However, apart from being hard work, most people find clinical school to be really enjoyable. This is where the process of becoming a doctor begins, and you will realise that pre-clinical was relevant after all! Working and socialising with a group of like-minded individuals is lots of fun, and although you may have been with them for three years already, you may be pleasantly surprised at the number of great people in your medical year. Although there is something for everyone to enjoy, most of us will experience ups and downs during our time at clinical school. For this reason, there are many people available to help when things are feeling a bit much. Visit our Welfare Resources page to find out more. The Osler House Committee welfare reps are Jon Wordsworth and Becky Hewitson, who are both very friendly and available to chat whenever you need to. They will be around throughout Fresher’s fortnight and hoping to get to know as many new faces as possible, so come over and say hello! They will also hold various welfare events throughout the year, many of which will centre around providing you with free food and the chance to have a good natter with other medics. These are a great opportunity to talk to students in other years, so that they can impart reassuring and beneficial words of advice! The welfare reps also provide condoms, rape alarms and pregnancy test free of charge. Click on the Welfare Resources link and scroll down to the Condom Fairy section for more details.
